Born to Master Carver, Rangi Hetet and Master Weaver, Erenora Puketapu- Hetet, Veranoa Hetet grew up totally immersed in Maori Art. With her parents being fulltime artists, it was only natural that Veranoa also take this pathway and she has now become an internationally known weaver and artist. Much of her work can be found in private collections throughout the world. Veranoa also has much of her work in public Galleries and buildings throughout New Zealand.
Veranoa was taught, by her mother and father, at a very young age and has now been weaving for over 32 years. In 1991 she began teaching weaving. Having taught for tertiary Institutions such as Te Wananga o Raukawa, Wellington Polytechnic, Te Whanau Paneke, and The Open Polytechnic of New Zealand, Veranoa now continues to teach privately from The Hetet Studios in Waiwhetu, Lower Hutt, New Zealand. Veranoa also travels internationally to teach and to promote Maori weaving.
It is from The Hetet Studios that Veranoa continues the Hetet family tradition in creating artworks of an incredibly high quality. Her work has been deemed by Art critics, reviewers and commentators to be innovative and outstanding.
Veranoa is of Ngati Tuwharetoa, Ngati Maniapoto and Te Atiawa descent. She is married to Sam Hauwaho of Tuhoe and Te Aitanga a Hauiti descent. Sam has been a carver and teacher of carving for over 20 years. They have five children and live in the tribal settlement in Waiwhetu, Lower Hutt, New Zealand.
